Description

The Horadric Cube is obtained from the Halls of the Dead in Act II and is chosen for the creation of the Horadric Staff and Khalim's Will.

Besides fulfilling these quest objectives, the Cube has many other crafting uses—see Recipes.

Open your inventory, press alt, open your cube (it has to be in your inventory, not in your stash), release alt, and close your cube/inventory.
While only taking up 4 slots worth of inventory space, a Horadric Cube's interior yields 12 slots of internal space.
Just to clarify: To get a Cube from the Council Member (in Act III), the quest must still be incomplete in the current game (or else Khalim's Flail—and the Cube—will not drop).
If you don't get a cube in act 2 you can get one in act 3 when you kill the high Council Member which drops Khalim's Flail.
It takes 14,281,868,906,496 El runes to cube a single Zod rune.
