One of the new patch 2.4 Runewords, Pattern is considered an early game item suitable for Assassins; especially those heavily invested in Blade Traps or the Martial Arts tree.

Key details

In the former case, this runeword is eventually abandoned in favor of Plague.
In the latter, Mosaic is preferred.

Pattern was ladder only during Patch 2.4 and Patch 2.5 (Ladder Season 1 & 2).
There is an amusing mistranslation in the German localization, which calls the runeword "Prasseln" (to rhythmically come down, crackle, clatter).
