Spirit is a strong end-game caster shield and mid-game weapon Runeword.

Key details

  • It is moderately affordable (considering the skill bonus) and is often rerolled to reach 35% Faster Cast Rate.
  • The sole limitation is that the shield version calls for a base shield with 4 sockets, and the earliest available (exluding auric shields) is Monarch, requiring level 54 and 156 strength.
  • For the sword version a normal Crystal Sword is enough.
  • Spirit shield is typically kept on weapon switch together with Call To Arms to increase the skill level of oskills, and thus the amount of Life and Mana the player receives when casting Battle Orders.

  • Spirit was originally ladder only.
  • Since a 4-socket (4 open socket) item requires ilvl 26+ the best place to farm a base is normal difficulty The Secret Cow Level which you can then use the Larzuk quest ( Siege on Harrogath) to add sockets which will be maxed at 4.
  • The chance of a perfect roll in a shield is 1/1584 or 0.063%.
  • Magic Absorb from Spirit has no effect on elemental damage.
  • Paladins can try to build this runeword in a 4socket paladin shield - the can be rolled with automod adding resists (e.g. chromatic, which adds up to 45 all resist).
  • The +2 To All Skills found on Spirit is the largest skill bonus that can be found on an off-hand item for the Amazon, Druid, and Sorceress.
