Boss family
Duriel
The Lord of Pain was left behind to guard Tal Rasha's Tomb and vents his bitterness on every adventurer who reaches his lair. Duriel is the final boss of Act 2 and is found guarding Tal Rasha's Chamber. He has Holy Freeze and can inflict knockback. Using a Thawing Potion prior to the fight is a good idea for the added 30 seconds of cold resistance. Sorceress strategy: Use Static Field to quickly bring Duriel's health down, then finish him off with another spell. Necromancers use Minions to draw Duriel's attention, then cast Iron Maiden or use Bone Spear, Bone Spirit or Teeth. Amazons can use Valkyries to draw Duriel's fire. All classes can bring a Hireling to keep Duriel busy for a few seconds. Uber Duriel uses the same attacks as before, but he is much stronger. He regenerates life twice as quickly as normal monsters. His Attack Rating is comparatively low, so Barbarians with Shout and Paladins with Defiance Aura will greatly increase your party's survivability. His Drain Effectiveness is also quite high, so Life Tap or weapons which grant Life Stealing will be very beneficial against him.

D2Emu Tips
- Open a Town Portal in or immediately outside the lair before engaging, and bring a hireling or summon to absorb his opening pressure.
- Duriel combines Holy Freeze with Jab and a stunning, knockback Smite, making movement and recovery more difficult than the small arena suggests.
- Static Field can shorten the first phase for Sorceresses; other builds benefit from a durable distraction while applying damage at range.
- For non-quest Hell kills, Twisted Essence of Suffering chance rises from about 21.2% at players 1–2 to about 22.0% at players 5–8; the Seven Tombs quest kill has slightly better odds.
- Duriel is a major Normal-difficulty gear check; enter with faster movement, Cold Resistance, and Crushing Blow on yourself or your mercenary.
- Each Duriel drop independently has about a one-in-three chance to be a Town Portal Scroll, so he can drop several—or even only scrolls.
- Duriel's statue drops are 90% Korlic's Pain, 5% Talic's Anguish, and 5% Madawc's Ire.
